Lavrov Praises Trump’s Viewpoint on Russia
The press briefing followed Lavrov’s meeting with Mozambique’s Foreign Minister Maria Lucas.
Lavrov expressed concern over recent declarations made by European officials, calling them "very alarming."
He claimed these remarks were contributing to growing strain between Europe and Russia.
According to Lavrov, such developments stem from a sense of impunity and from the West's persistent encouragement of what he referred to as the Kyiv regime’s continued "provocations and terrorist acts" against both civilian infrastructure and Russian citizens.
He stated that "these actions do not stop."
The Russian diplomat pledged that his country would provide "a fitting response" to such provocations.
He insisted that Russia would fulfill its objectives despite what he described as the European Union’s ongoing efforts to obstruct them "through the hands of Kyiv."
Lavrov also emphasized the difference in attitudes between US administrations, suggesting that Europe could benefit from observing the Trump administration’s conduct.
He said, "I hope the reasonable approach, including a willingness for dialogue, to listen and understand, demonstrated by the Trump administration after replacing the Biden administration, which had been in lockstep with reckless Europeans, will not go unnoticed in Europe."
The remarks followed recent controversial statements from Western military officials.
Last week, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius asserted that German forces must be prepared "to kill Russian soldiers" in the event of a NATO conflict with Moscow.
Additionally, US Army Europe and Africa Commander Christopher Donahue raised the notion of a potential preemptive strike on Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave along the Baltic Sea.
