Sudan Firmly Rejects RSF’s Rival Government

(MENAFN) Sudan’s government on Sunday firmly rejected the creation of a rival administration announced by a coalition led by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), urging the international community not to acknowledge or engage with it. The condemnation came in a statement released by the Sudanese Foreign Ministry.

"The Ministry strongly condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the step taken by the terrorist RSF militia in announcing a fake government, claiming to assign government positions to run Sudan," the statement declared.

The ministry called on neighboring states, global powers, international and regional bodies, and all official and non-official entities to oppose the RSF-led announcement and to abstain from recognizing or dealing with the newly declared government.

It warned that any interaction with the RSF’s administration would violate Sudan’s legitimate governance, infringe on its territorial sovereignty, and undermine the rights and resources of its citizens.

The RSF-aligned coalition, known as the Sudan Founding Alliance, unveiled the formation of the rival government on Saturday in a televised announcement shared on Telegram.

The broadcast named Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi as the "prime minister." RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo was appointed "President of the Presidential Council," identified as the top sovereign authority. Meanwhile, Abdelaziz Adam Al-Hilu, leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North, was designated as "Vice President of the Presidential Council."

This move follows a founding charter signed in February between the RSF and a number of political and armed factions, laying the foundation for the alternative administration.

Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal civil conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF since April 2023. The war has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and forced millions to flee, both within the country and beyond its borders.
