US consents selling of cruise missiles to Ukraine

(MENAFN) The United States has authorized the sale of 3,350 air-launched ERAM cruise missiles to Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday, citing unnamed US officials. The missiles, with a range of up to 280 miles, are expected to arrive in Ukraine within six weeks, though officials said Kyiv must obtain Pentagon approval before using them.

President Donald Trump, who had previously criticized the Biden administration’s aid to Ukraine as unconditional, stated earlier this week that Ukraine cannot succeed against Russia without the ability to strike Russian targets. Ukrainian forces have been losing ground to Russian troops throughout 2025 and are struggling to replenish their ranks.

Trump also noted in July that any additional weapons provided to Ukraine would be funded by NATO member states. Meanwhile, European supporters of Ukraine, including France and Germany, are urging further weapons deliveries as part of security guarantees once the conflict concludes. Russia, however, continues to view Western military aid as a barrier to reaching a peace agreement.
