Hegseth Fires Three Pentagon Officials
This move, reported by multiple media organizations on Friday, has stirred widespread speculation, though no official explanation has been publicly provided.
The firings appear to be linked to recent unauthorized disclosures suggesting that American airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure were not entirely effective.
Contrary to the bold assertions by U.S. President Donald Trump, the strikes reportedly failed to fully dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Citing three U.S. government sources, a news agency reported that Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse, who had been directing the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), was among those dismissed.
Additionally, two high-ranking Navy officers were relieved of duty.
A news outlet, quoting its own sources, named these individuals as Vice Adm.
Nancy Lacore, who led the Navy Reserve, and Rear Adm. Milton Sands, a Navy SEAL in charge of the Naval Special Warfare Command.
According to a source quoted by another news agency, Kruse’s ousting was attributed to a “loss of confidence,” allegedly prompted by internal DIA analysis.
This assessment reportedly concluded that the June strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites had merely postponed Tehran’s progress by a few months, rather than inflicting lasting damage.
In response to the leaked findings, Trump denounced the reports as “fake news,” while both he and Hegseth maintained that Iran’s nuclear ambitions had been “obliterated.”
