18 Reported Dead in Colombia Attacks
A bombing near the Marco Fidel Suárez Air Base in Cali on Thursday left at least six people dead and more than 30 injured, according to the city’s mayor’s office. The explosion occurred around 2:50 p.m. local time (1950 GMT), the Colombian Aerospace Force said, adding that it remains committed to ensuring public safety.
In a separate incident, more than 12 police officers lost their lives when their anti-narcotics helicopter was shot down in the northern town of Amalfi. The attack was attributed to the criminal group Estado Mayor Central, officials said.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed the tragedy, stating the helicopter had been transporting personnel involved in “the eradication of coca leaf crops,” following a recent seizure of a cocaine shipment.
