Ramaphosa Urges Partners to Shift from Aid to Investment
He made these remarks during the economic plenary session at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
Ramaphosa emphasized that Africa is prepared to take charge of its destiny in a world that is rapidly changing.
He stated, “Africa is not seeking aid. It is seeking partners. Partners that understand value co-creation, sustainable development, and mutual industrialisation,” a declaration that elicited strong reactions from the high-level summit attendees.
The president highlighted Africa’s, and South Africa’s in particular, proactive response to worldwide economic uncertainties, shifting trade dynamics, and emerging industrial revolutions through ambitious reforms and deliberate strategies.
He shared insights into how South Africa is modernizing its economy to attract and maintain foreign investments.
“We have stabilised our energy supply and are modernising our infrastructure. We are opening ports and rail to private sector investment,” Ramaphosa said, emphasizing that these initiatives support South Africa’s re-industrialisation strategy focused on localisation, green energy, and enhancing regional integration.
