Kremlin Confirms Russia-Ukraine Talks Remain in Progress

(MENAFN) Negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations remain active, but no timetable has been established for the next session, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated Wednesday.

Russia continues to back a political and diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict, contingent on mutual willingness from both parties, Peskov told reporters in Moscow.

"The leaders of the negotiating groups are maintaining contact, however, we cannot specify an exact timeline for the upcoming round of negotiations," he emphasized.

Security guarantees stand as a pivotal issue in efforts to resolve the crisis, yet public debates on the subject risk undermining overall progress, the spokesman warned.

"Certainly, this topic is one of the most significant within the framework of efforts aimed at finding a resolution. It consistently appears on the agenda of ongoing consultations. But we do not wish to engage in public discourse on this subject now. We consider it counterproductive for achieving general results," Peskov said.

Responding to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s remarks about possible strikes on Kyiv administrative buildings using Russia’s advanced Oreshnik system, Peskov reiterated President Vladimir Putin’s careful approach, noting that Russian military actions focus solely on legitimate targets.

"President Putin consistently maintains a decisive, thoughtful, and responsible position. Our armed forces strike exclusively military and quasi-military targets. This presidential stance will undoubtedly persist and remain unchanged going forward," he stated.

On whether negotiations might escalate to higher diplomatic levels, Peskov underscored the necessity for meticulous preparation to ensure effectiveness.

"This work continues, and we believe it should proceed. Because any additional contacts at higher levels, as we've repeatedly stressed, require proper preparation so these interactions prove fruitful," he added.

Peskov also praised the United States’ mediation efforts, highlighting Russia’s appreciation for US President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives and expressing hope they will continue.

Peskov praised the US role in seeking a resolution, stating that Russia highly appreciates peacemaking efforts by US President Donald Trump towards ending it and expressed hope that he will continue these efforts as they are "very important."
