Canada’s Chrystia Freeland Announces Resignation

(MENAFN) Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s long-serving Liberal minister, announced on Tuesday that she is stepping down from her cabinet position. In a social media post, Freeland, who has held the roles of transport and internal trade minister, explained that her decision aims to open opportunities for others and seek new challenges for herself.

In response, Prime Minister Mark Carney shared on X that he has asked Freeland to take on a new role as Canada’s special representative for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Freeland has served in several prominent cabinet positions since the Liberals returned to power in 2015, including deputy prime minister, finance minister, and foreign minister.
