Hossein Noushabadi, the foreign ministry consular affairs official, told a news agency that "120 people should be deported and flown home over the next couple of days,"
He also said that "the US immigration service has decided to deport around 400 Iranians currently in the United States, most of them after entering illegally."
According to the New York Times, around 100 Iranians who had taken refuge in the U.S. were being deported to Iran under a deal struck between the governments in Washington and Tehran.
It stated that this unusual agreement between the longtime enemies was achieved only after several months of talks.
A news agency contacted the US State Department which from its part did not respond straightaway.
