Gulf leaders gather in Manama for GCC Summit
This year’s summit marks the first participation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman at a GCC meeting since 2020, representing Oman’s highest-level attendance in 14 years, as the country has traditionally sent ministers rather than its monarch. Other leaders in attendance included Kuwait’s Emir Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, UAE Vice President Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The summit’s agenda covers a broad range of topics, including defense and political coordination, economic and development policies, and aligning Gulf positions on regional and international issues. The GCC, founded on May 25, 1981, comprises Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, and is headquartered in Saudi Arabia. The meeting underscores the bloc’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and maintain stability across the Gulf region.
