Honduras vote count halts once again

(MENAFN) The vote tally in Honduras’ recent general elections has stalled once more, with the National Electoral Council (CNE) reporting that only 80% of ballots have been processed, three days after polling concluded.

Electoral councilor Cossette Lopez Osorio criticized the interruption on social media, condemning the company responsible for the results portal, “Grupo ASD,” for failing to fulfill its contractual obligations. She said, “It is INEXCUSABLE for the publication to stop again due to maintenance actions on the system without notifying the Plenary, during crucial hours for the vote count and the publishing of tally sheets. This is now also affecting the public results rooms we implemented to mitigate the effects of the company’s deficient service.”

By 2 pm local time (2100 GMT), with 80% of polling stations counted, Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nasralla was leading with 1,023,359 votes, edging ahead of National Party contender Nasry Asfura, who had 1,007,528 votes. Despite Nasralla’s advantage, members of the National Party argue that their candidate could still prevail, noting that results from stronghold regions have not yet been fully counted.

Grupo ASD attributed the interruption to maintenance on the results platform, which reportedly crashed again due to high traffic from users attempting to check the vote.

This follows a previous disruption on December 1, when the vote-counting system failed with only 50% of polling stations tallied, at which point Asfura held a narrow lead. The count resumed after more than a day of delay and has continued intermittently.
