Romania destroys threatening unmanned sea vehicle in Black Sea

(MENAFN) Romania announced on Wednesday that it has neutralized an unmanned sea vehicle in the Black Sea after assessing it as a threat to maritime traffic. The Romanian Defense Ministry said that a naval surveillance vessel, carrying explosive-ordnance-disposal divers, detected the device 36 nautical miles east of the port city of Constanța.

The team was authorized to destroy the object, which posed a hazard to shipping in the area.

The ministry emphasized that Romanian naval forces maintain constant monitoring and inspection of their maritime zones, working in coordination with other NATO members.

Authorities also warned that drifting sea mines and unmanned marine devices continue to pose risks to safe navigation in the Black Sea, underscoring ongoing security challenges in the region.
