Delcy Rodriguez Calls for Cooperation with US After Maduro’s Capture

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez extended an invitation to the United States to collaborate with her government following the raid in which President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were “captured” and taken to the US to face criminal charges.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Rodriguez urged: "We invite the US government to collaborate with us on an agenda of cooperation oriented towards shared development within the framework of international law to strengthen lasting community coexistence."

She emphasized the importance of “balanced and respectful international relations between the United States and Venezuela, and between Venezuela and other countries in the region, premised on sovereign equality and non-interference.”

Rodriguez also appealed for peace, declaring: "President Donald Trump, our peoples and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war. This has always been President Nicolas Maduro’s message, and it is the message of all of Venezuela right now."

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump commented that Rodriguez is "cooperating,” but cautioned that she "will face a situation probably worse than Maduro" if she fails to do so. He added that the US requires “total access” to Venezuela’s oil and other resources in order to “rebuild their country.”
