Mojtaba Khamenei’s Emerging Role in Iran’s War Strategy

(MENAFN) US intelligence services assess that Iran’s newly designated Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is playing a part in directing Tehran’s military approach during wartime as well as its discussions with Washington, according to a report from CNN on Friday. Although he has stayed out of public view after being injured during the conflict, officials believe he remains engaged behind the scenes.

The report, which draws on individuals familiar with US intelligence evaluations, indicates that there is still uncertainty over the extent of authority Khamenei currently holds within Iran’s power hierarchy, especially after wartime strikes eliminated several high-ranking figures, including his father.

According to US officials, Khamenei is thought to be maintaining communication through reliable intermediaries and occasional face-to-face meetings while he recuperates from injuries described as burns and shrapnel wounds.

In response, Iranian authorities have maintained that his recovery is progressing positively. Mazaher Hosseini, who serves as the head of protocol in the office of the supreme leader, stated on Friday that Khamenei’s health has improved and rejected rumors about his medical condition.

The same assessment also concluded that Iran’s military strength has been reduced by US strikes but not fully dismantled, noting that a significant number of missile launch systems remain active.
