Four Republican senators — Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Rand Paul — joined Democrats in supporting the motion. Meanwhile, Democratic Senator John Fetterman voted against it.
According to reports, Republican senators John Cornyn, Thom Tillis, and Tommy Tuberville did not participate in the vote.
Ahead of the vote, Kaine urged lawmakers to allow a full Senate debate on the issue, arguing that Congress should reassess US military involvement with Iran during what he described as a “fragile ceasefire.”
He stated:
"This vote this week to discharge this matter from the committee and finally bring it to the floor of the Senate is different than any of the seven votes we've had before,"
Kaine also criticized Donald Trump, accusing him of disregarding diplomatic efforts concerning Iran without consulting Congress.
