Lavrov Warns Europe of Short War If It Attacks Russia

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned Wednesday that any military attack on Russia by European countries would trigger a conflict that would be “completely different” and “very short.”

Addressing participants at the International Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg, Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s position that it has no plans or interest in launching an attack against European or other Western nations.

“Russia has repeatedly said that we are not going to attack Western countries and have no interest in doing so. But if Europe, which speaks regularly about preparing for war against Russia, attacks the Russian Federation, then this will be a completely different war, and it will be very short,” he stressed.

Lavrov maintained that confrontation does not form part of Russia’s preferred approach, emphasizing that the country’s leadership, including President Vladimir Putin, has expressed this position on multiple occasions.

He argued that Western governments had long pursued a policy aimed at restricting Russia, pointing specifically to what he called NATO’s “forceful” expansion toward Russian territory.

The Russian foreign minister further condemned the growing calls among European leaders to prepare for a potential conflict with Moscow. He said discussions about war with Russia had become a prominent issue among political figures in Brussels.

Lavrov also issued a warning concerning the possible deployment of Western military forces to Ukraine, stating that such a move would constitute a declaration of war against Russia.
